Passengers, communities and businesses in East Anglia will benefit from big changes happening on our railway.


  • 169 new trains on Greater Anglia worth £1.4 billion – all trains are being replaced

Stations, tracks, depots

  • c2c improvement work at Barking, Fenchurch Street, Rainham and Laindon
  • £40 million depot works at Norwich Crown Point for new train maintenance
  • c2c´s new ticket machines at every station
  • New technology to remotely monitor Greater Anglia trains and fix faults earlier, cutting delays


  • Greater Anglia will continue to offer space at stations for local events
  • c2c worked with the BTP and children from Turning Tides, to launch a rail safety book
  • c2c will continue offering free train tickets to interview for job seekers through local Job Centres, and free travel for two months when they first start

Major upgrade work

  • £27 million upgrade project delivered by Network Rail to enable eight coach trains to operate between Cambridge and King´s Lynn
  • Network Rail working to reduce delays by installing new signals on the Wherry line and replacing overhead wiring from Shenfield to Southend Victoria

The rail industry recognise the need for big changes, that's why together we submitted proposals for a radical alternative to the current franchising system to the independently-chaired Williams review looking into the future of Britain's railway. We proposed for a more customer focussed, joined-up and accountable railway.
